Overview

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit global environmental organization with more than 2 million members and online activists.  We have offices in New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Montana, and Beijing, China.  Our staff of over 450 includes lawyers, scientists, economists, policy analysts and environmental experts work to protect the environment and public health through advocacy and education.

 

Position Summary: 

 

The IT Intern provides daily support at the first-tier level for all aspects of NRDC’s computing and network environment and to ensure that end users are receiving appropriate assistance. This includes the responsibility of identification, prioritization, and resolution of end user help requests, including the monitoring, tracking, and coordination of support functions with other members of the IT department. The IT Intern will also contribute to problem resolution by providing support to end users both locally and remotely. This position is based in the New York office.

Responsibilities

  • Provide help desk support for the staff, manage and support client systems (workstations and portables) which includes troubleshooting and resolving a variety of problems
  • Serve as the first-tier level of support for all computing or network problems encountered by the staff
  • Assist the Site Manager in monitoring and reporting the state of the network and computing equipment
  • Setup and support internal and external videoconferencing
  • Administer user accounts and access rights
  • Assist NY Site Manager and Operations and Support Manager with preparing and maintain systems documentation
  • Maintain NRDC’s policies and standards
  • Train users on system usage, procedures and protocols

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Information Technology
  • Experience with desktops, laptops, peripherals, and PDA/handheld devices
  • Exposure to corporate applications including Windows operating system and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer-service oriented
  • Good troubleshooting skills with ability to prioritize priority level of technical issues
  • Exposure to in patching and securing computers from malware, spyware and viruses
