The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is one of the nation’s most effective environmental action organizations. We use law, science, and the support of some 2.4 million members and activists to protect human health and environment which supports it, as well as the planet’s wildlife and wild places. Founded in 1970, NRDC staff helped write some of America’s bedrock environmental laws. Today, our staff of more than 500 passionate environmental advocates – including lawyers, scientists, economists, policy and communications experts, the development team and others – works to protect and create environmental progress at home and abroad from offices in New York; Washington, DC; Chicago; Los Angeles; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing.
NRDC seeks an experienced development professional to join the Foundation Relations team and achieve results as a member of the organization’s Development Department. The overarching responsibility of the Portfolio Manager, New York is to support planning and execution of fundraising strategies designed to meet or exceed the Foundation Relations team’s annual revenue goal. ($35+ million for FY18.)
As lead staff for a portfolio of mostly East Coast-based foundation donors, the Portfolio Manager, New York will lead efforts to make and execute plans for cultivating and strengthening relationships with foundation staff and advisors; prepare and submit funding requests, and manage the grants to NRDC which result from these efforts.
The ideal candidate will be one with a personal commitment to environmental advocacy, significant experience working in a high-volume foundations fundraising capacity, and an ability to craft fundraising communications in clear and compelling language.
