Overview

NRDC is a leading nonprofit membership organization that has been marshaling science and the law to protect the environment and public health since 1970. For over 40 years, NRDC has played a central role in crafting, implementing, enforcing, and defending virtually all of the nation’s environmental laws. Reviving the world’s oceans is one of NRDC’s top institutional priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Working with lawyers, scientists, and policy experts to conduct research and draft position papers, comments, and letters on a wide range of ocean issues, from fisheries management in the U.S. and China, to Arctic and high seas governance, to illegal fishing, to marine protected areas.
  • A report or a series of papers analyzing specific issues

Qualifications

  • Strong research skills and excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively without extensive supervision
  • Close attention to detail
  • A demonstrated interest in public policy
  • An interest in ocean conservation a plus
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Stanback Positions are only available to current or enrolled Duke University student for September 2018
