Overview

The Fellow will sit in the International Climate Team within NRDC’s International Program. NRDC’s International Program works in nations and communities across the globe to leverage decades of scientific, economic, and policy expertise to spearhead sweeping environmental breakthroughs that help build a better future. The International Program works primarily in China, India, Canada, Mexico, and Chile as well as on cross-cutting international climate change issues.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the International Climate Team on research, analysis, and advocacy around climate change actions in key developed and developing countries, with a particular focus on what actions countries are already taking to meet and exceed their current climate commitments and how they might be prepared to elevate their ambition for the post-2020 period
  • Help the team by working on advocacy pieces around the Paris Agreement on climate change and shifting from fossil fuel to low-carbon finance
  • Assist in the research, analysis, and preparation of a report quantifying key additional climate change mitigation actions toward 2030
  • Assist in the research, analysis and drafting of materials such as reports or blogs related to shifting from fossil fuels to low-carbon energy financing, and helping to manage a database of relevant projects
  • Assist the International Climate Team with opportunistic advocacy and communications efforts to encourage countries to exceed their commitments to the Paris Agreement and shift to low-carbon finance pathways

Qualifications

  • A high academic record and strong analytical, research, and writing skills
  • Some background knowledge of topics relating to climate and clean energy, green finance, and/or international climate policies
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the capability to handle multiple tasks, work well under pressure and be detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • A high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

Stanback Positions are only available to current or enrolled Duke University student for September 2018
