Overview

We use the services of interns in essentially the same manner as program staff, fully integrating them into ongoing projects and new advocacy opportunities as they arise.  Legal interns undertake research and writing in support of ongoing lawsuits, administrative comments, Congressional testimony, media releases, fact sheets, and analytic papers. Our intent is to give interns the most true-to-life experiences while augmenting our ability to benefit public health and the environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performing legal research for briefs or rulemaking comments
  • Drafting fact sheets, white papers, press releases, reports or letters
  • Attending Congressional hearings or lobbying visits with Congressional staff
  • Participating in environmental community strategy sessions and meetings with other stakeholders
  • Any final reports, presentations, analyses, etc. that the Intern will generate by the completion of the internship

Qualifications

  • A law student with a sincere interest in working for an environmental non-profit organization is encouraged to apply
  • A second-year law student with training or experience in environmental law, environmental policy, or environmental economics desired
  • Stanback Positions are only available to current or enrolled Duke University student for September 2018
