NRDC is seeking an Climate and Clean Energy Intern to work in its D.C. office on efforts to:

  • Defend federal climate and clean energy policies and programs from legislative and federal attacks;
  • Support state climate and clean energy advocacy; and
  • Advance NRDC’s work on climate adaptation, particularly in the public health sector.  


This internship is unpaid and requires a minimum work schedule of 35 hours per week.    Candidates must be able to receive academic credit or internship funding from their institution.  The internship will begin in the Summer semester.


The intern will assist the Climate and Clean Energy program with a combination of administrative and substantive tasks, including:

  • Preparing for meetings;
  • Data entry;
  • Fact-finding for talking points, fact sheets, blog posts, and planning documents;
  • Attending and reporting on hearings, speeches, or other public events;
  • Drafting social media posts, blog posts, fact sheets, and other public-facing materials; and
  • Other duties, as needed.


  • Demonstrated interest in climate and clean energy advocacy (i.e., through coursework, volunteer activities, or prior employment)
  • Basic knowledge of the health impacts of climate change
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and internet research skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting
