    The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations; our water enforcement cases played a major role shaping current water policy throughout the country. Today, our staff of more than 500 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy and communications experts, and others, work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bozeman, Montana, and Beijing.


    Position Summary:


    NRDC is seeking a part-time Fellow to work with the Western Energy team in our San Francisco office. The part-time Fellow will develop advocacy materials designed to influence public policy decisions and support the implementation of clean energy policies. This will include conducting various data analyses and developing public fact sheets and/or blogs on timely clean energy policy issues. Compensation will be in the form of school credit and/or a modest stipend, depending on the options available at your school and the amount of time the Fellow is able to dedicate to this work. NRDC will work with successful candidates to complete any paperwork necessary to help secure available credit. The Fellow will begin as soon as possible and will conclude no later than 12/31/2018.


    1. Update NRDC’s database of energy efficiency savings;
    2. Conduct data analyses and create graphics to be used by NRDC staff in various advocacy efforts including at the state energy commissions and legislature; and
    3. Write fact sheet(s) and/or blog(s) illustrating progress on California’s clean energy policies.



    1. Strong technical research, analytical, and quantitative skills;
    2. Persuasive written and oral advocacy skills, especially communicating technical and analytical information in a clear and concise manner; and
    3. Preferred understanding of California’s energy policies, specifically energy efficiency and renewable energy policies.
