    The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations; our water enforcement cases played a major role shaping current water policy throughout the country. Today, our staff of more than 500 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy and communications experts, and others work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bozeman, Montana, and Beijing. 


    Position Summary:


    NRDC is seeking a Winter Intern to work with our Nature Program in NRDC’s Northern Rockies Office in Bozeman, Montana. This internship will support NRDC’s advocacy work on wildlife, federal policy, carnivore coexistence, and other conservation issues in the Northern Rockies. Some travel may be required. The internship will begin in January 2019, it is a 35-hour-per-week position, it will last approximately three months, and the intern will receive a stipend.


    • Research factual and policy issues relevant to NRDC’s wildlife and state and federal policy advocacy;
    • Draft, proofread, and edit documents (e.g., research memoranda);
    • Help with outreach and education efforts; and
    • Generally assist Nature program staff with various projects.


    • Undergraduate degree;
    • Outstanding academic record;
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple demanding tasks;
    • Ability to work both on a team and independently, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines;
    • Exceptional research, writing and communication skills;
    • Strong interest in conservation issues in the West; and
    • Enthusiasm for NRDC’s mission.
