The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations; our water enforcement cases played a major role shaping current water policy throughout the country. Today, our staff of more than 500 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy and communications experts, and others, work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bozeman, Montana and Beijing.
NRDC is seeking a Schneider Summer Fellow to work with the Healthy People & Thriving Communities team in our Santa Monica Office. This would be a 2019 Summer Internship. This opportunity is only open to currently enrolled Stanford students.
Our summer fellow would be based in our LA office under the supervision of Hilary Firestone who is the Buildings Technical Strategist on the American Cities Climate Challenge. This fellow would support the ACCC technical team on city policies and programs around buildings, energy, EVs, and mobility. The fellow will work directly on the project to perform research, data analysis, resource creation, and strategy support to help the technical team as they guide and drive cities to achieve ambitious climate reductions. Each of the 20 cities in the Challenge will commit to 6-8 actions, guided by the technical expertise of our team. The intern will attend meetings with the technical leads to learn how we develop and implement strategy to achieve wins at the local level utilizing best practices and robust data. The research and analysis they perform will be instrumental to help our cities work with stakeholders and community leaders to achieve their Challenge goals to meet or exceed Paris commitments.
