  • Overview

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things.   NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations; our water enforcement cases played a major role shaping current water policy throughout the country. Today, our staff of more than 500 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy and communications experts, and others, work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bozeman, Montana and Beijing.

    Position Summary:

NRDC is seeking an Intern to work with the City Energy Project team in our San Francisco, Santa Monica, New York or Chicago offices. This is a part-time paid internship over the Spring of 2020, January-May, with the option to extend through the summer as a full-time paid internship.

The City Energy Project (http://www.cityenergyproject.org/) is a unique national initiative to create healthier and more prosperous American cities by improving the energy efficiency of existing buildings. Cities want to work to create more sustainable urban communities but often lack the funding and resources to make the changes they envision. Working in partnership, the participating cities and the Project support solutions that cut energy waste, boost local economies, and reduce harmful pollution. In particular, NRDC and our partner organization, Institution for Market Transformation, assist mayoral offices with developing and advocating for policy as well as implementing innovative city programs to advance energy efficiency. City Energy Project is part of NRDC’s Healthy People, Thriving Communities program focused on place-based efforts to address climate change and equity.
