    The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations; our water enforcement cases played a major role shaping current water policy throughout the country. Today, our staff of more than 500 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy and communications experts, and others, work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bozeman, Montana, and Beijing.

     

    Position Summary:

     

    NRDC is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join the Facilities Department in our New York office. The Facilities department is responsible for a diverse portfolio, including space planning, real estate, workplace management, security, capital projects, sustainability, travel, and procurement across NRDC offices. Under the supervision of the Chief Real Estate and Sustainability Officer,  the Senior Project Manager will lead the coordination and oversight of operational initiatives supporting the Mission of NRDC and Facilities. The successful candidate will be passionate about having a diverse workload, fosters working collaboratively, able to solve problems and face challenges creatively, displays strong communication and organizational skills, and exemplifies the Facilities Team mission, goals, and values.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide oversight on key responsibilities on project timelines, budgets, long-term maintenance plans for the owned facilities, and other policies & procedures
    • Manage one direct report and may lead teams of contractors in the future.
    • Develop, implement and administer capital projects
    • Lead Facilities team on institutional projects such as workplace strategy, emerging remote trends, and temporary workforce
    • Liaise with the Facilities staff across all office locations, Operations team (Operations Project Manager, IT, HR, Finance) and other departments on projects to establish resources for projects
    • Develop and implement tools to monitor projects, data collection, performance indicators, and create reports as needed
    • Identify project risks and opportunities and provide resolutions 
    • Proactively identify opportunities to adapt and streamline processes
    • Create and draft communication to stakeholders regarding project updates
    • Coach, mentor, and create a motivational environment for all team members, co-workers and peers
    • Conduct other duties as assigned

    Timely completion and attention to detail are expected in carrying out these tasks, as is the ability to assess situations with the "big picture" in mind. 

     

    Executive weekly summaries are expected to be written and turned in to the Chief Real Estate and Sustainability Officer on activities, product production, potential issues and the overall state of all projects at hand.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 10 years of experience in facilities and project management
    • Undergraduate Degree or combination of education and demonstrated experience in the field
    • A minimum of 10 years of industry experience required
    • Demonstrated experience in managing 24/7 operations in a fast-paced work environment
    • Experience preferably working in a non-profit environment
    • Ability to plan and manage within budget & time constraints
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access)
    • Possess strong written, verbal and people skills
    • Possess strong organizational skills and collaborative management style
