NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our people helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and many of the implementing regulations. Position Summary 
NRDC is seeking a Regional Digital Advocacy Manager to work with the Digital Advocacy & Fundraising (DAF) team in the Communications department to develop and draft assets for digital advocacy efforts focused on state, local and regional environmental advocacy issues, including addressing climate change, protecting wildlife and wildlands, defending safe drinking water, and more. This position will report to the Director of Digital Advocacy and Engagement. Candidates in New York or Washington, D.C. are preferred, but we are open to fully remote, if appropriate.  

The Regional Digital Advocacy Manager should be a creative and experienced digital campaigner looking to be part of a dynamic team to develop compelling advocacy and engagement campaigns.  

Ideal candidates will have professional experience working with progressive advocacy organizations, electoral campaigns, and/or consulting firms to utilize digital tools to mobilize people to take action online. Experience with on-the-ground grassroots or field organizing is also a plus. This is a limited term two year position. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and draft assets for digital advocacy campaigns focused on supporting NRDC’s local, state and regional environmental policy advocacy goals. 
  • Write and edit email and action alerts, landing page copy, and some supporting copy for multi-channel assets (e.g. social or digital ad copy). 
  • Coordinate the intake and scheduling of regional advocacy issues with other key Communications Department staff, other NRDC teams, and outside consultants. 
  • Execute editorial review and approval processes and work with digital production staff to proof and launch emails, SMS messages, and forms. 
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure action alerts conform to digital advocacy and engagement best practices.  
  • Monitor and report on the results of campaigns and use data and analytics to make strategic and tactical campaign decisions. 
  • Develop and distribute data-driven performance reports on regional digital advocacy efforts to key stakeholders inside NRDC. 
  • Curate promotion of regional advocacy efforts on key Comms channels like our website, social media channels, etc.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in digital and/or on-the-ground advocacy, ideally with some experience working on progressive national advocacy causes and/or political or electoral campaigns. 
  • Strong writing and editing skills, experience writing short and punchy direct-response advocacy emails, the ability to adapt writing style to a pre-existing “voice,” demonstrated ability to produce copy that is clear, compelling, and motivating, and ability to turn around copy on a same-day basis for rapid response. 
  • Knowledge of digital engagement best practices and interest in staying up to date on new digital advocacy tools, tactics, and strategies. 
  • Ability to work quickly in a “rapid response” environment to draft copy quickly in response to breaking news events. 
  • A deep concern for the natural world, a belief in the power of grassroots action to make a difference, and a commitment to using a large membership and online citizen network to help protect the environment

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $82,000 to $90,000 

 

NRDC operates under a hybrid work model. Employees are required to come to the office 8 days per month.
