Position Summary

NRDC is seeking a talented and motivated Benefits Analyst to join the Total Rewards Team. We are committed to fostering a work environment where our people thrive and collaborate to achieve our mission. The Benefits Analyst will evaluate, recommend, and administer employee benefit programs, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This role reports to our Benefits Director, based in our New York City office.

Responsibilities

  • The Benefits Analyst assists with the administration and implementation of Benefits programs.
  • The analyst develops plan materials, leads implementation of projects, and monitors market trends to ensure the competitiveness and effectiveness of benefits offerings. This role designs and executes solutions that align with organizational goals and strategy.
  • The analyst provides guidance to management, employees, retirees, and People Team staff on the benefit programs. In addition, collaborates with Payroll, Finance, Compensation, HRPR, Talent Acquisition, and Information Technology to implement and communicate various benefit data and changes, as well as answer general and complex questions.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements opportunities for plan improvements based on market analysis to ensure a competitive fringe benefit package. Conducts, participates in, and analyzes local and national benefit surveys to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and ensure benefit package competitiveness.
  • Leads implementation of Benefits projects: Open Enrollment, RFPs, Educational training, etc.
  • Responsible for the setup of employee benefits plan and enrollments sessions, ensures data accuracy, as well as creates statistical reports and analyzes utilization for management decision-making. Ensures the correct processing of data transmittals with our vendors.
  • Ensures accurate payroll deductions and premium calculation, premium calculations, adjustments, and any other benefits, premiums, adjustments and any other benefits premiums or deductions are reconciled on time and accurately.
  • Reviews employee benefit plan documents and stays abreast of federal and state regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Participates in the development of benefits material to provide management and employees with the information necessary to understand our benefit plans, policies, and processes. Assists with the process of various policy renewals
  • Performs regular audits and prepares required reporting to ensure compliance with the Employee Retirement Income and Security Act (ERISA), which includes Form 5500 filings. Also gathers the data required for vendors to prepare annual non-discrimination testing, analyzes the results for accuracy, and assists in corrective action if needed.
  • For financial and fiscal stewardship, assists in finding opportunities to control benefit costs through the negotiation of benefit contract terms, the competitive bid process, and ensuring the existence of effective and efficient administration.
  • Assembles data to assist in calculating and monitoring the benefits budget, enhances the effectiveness of programs, and ensures adherence to organizational, legal, and regulatory standards.
  • Administers Workers’ Comp Claims.
  • May serve as a resource and mentor to other team members on problem-solving routine to complex issues related to program policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience in Benefits/Wellness and or a blend of HR administration roles
  • Developed understanding/appreciation of the highly regulatory nature of HR and Benefits in particular
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment is preferable
  • Strong communication skills and an affinity for handling the challenges that come with working in a team that is spread out across various locations
  • Ability to build and manage a work/project plan to complete on schedule in partnership with cross-functional colleagues
  • Project management experience, preferably in a Benefits/Wellness function
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Possess strong written, verbal and people skills
  • Possess strong organizational skills and collaborative working style

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $76,000 to $95,000.

 

NRDC operates under a hybrid work model. Employees are required to come to the office 8 days per month.
